Sweet & Sour Ostrich Meatballs

Ostrich pairs excellently with fruity flavours. The sweet pineapple flavour of this recipe is a winning combination.

  • 500 g Ostrich Mince
  • 15 ml garlic powder • Salt to season
  • 15 ml olive oil
  • 30 ml maizena
  • 1 can crushed pineapple (410 g) • 1 green pepper, finely chopped •
  • 1 red pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 yellow pepper, finely chopped • 15 ml soy sauce
  • 15 ml sesame seeds
  • 125 ml sugar
  • 125 ml brown grape vinegar



  1. Season the mince with the salt and garlic powder.
  2. Roll small meatballs (3-4cm diameter) and brown in hot olive oil.
  3. Drain the pineapple, retaining 125 ml of the juice.
  4. Dissolve the Maizena in the juice and set aside.
  5. Combine all the other ingredients in a deep pan or skillet.
  6. Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes.
  7. Add the Maizena mixture, increase the heat, and stir constantly until the mixture boils.
  8. Add the meatballs, reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
  9. Serve on a bed of egg noodles.
